Hi I'm wanting to do a gorilla trek or gorilla trek + combination tour from 31st August/1st September. I have to be back in Nairobi on 8th September. Can anyone recommend a decent cheap agency I can use? Are there any other travellers out there who would be willing to join me? I'm an exprienced travel and love a good adventure! Thanks RLM

I didn't use an agency. I did it by myself.

Hi Ruth,

While I may not be able to join you for the entire time, I would be interested in doing Murchison Falls, and, if you happen to be taking the bus from Kampala to Nairobi, I would completely join you! I need to catch my flight the morning of the 8th, and traveling into Nairobi by bus alone if a bit dodgy. I've already been mugged once (at the DRC border with Rwanda), and would prefer to avoid any more hassles. Please send me a message if you would be interested in joining up!

Hi Ruth

Ive already got 4 permits from the UWA for September 14th, im here in the UK. Why not do it that way and when you get to Kampala bus it, or if there are a few of you hire a vehicle. On return to Kampala you can catch the train or bus to Nairobi. Just a suggestion and to let you know you dont need a tour company. Im not sure about availability of permits at such short notice though, so maybe you will need an agency. Brovad seem to have a good reputation on the forums that i have been checking out, maybe you could try them.

You can pretty much do it on your own no problem... when I went I did it through an not for profit business called Edirisa, which has a travel arm. For a small fee they'll get your permit for you and can even set up transportation (to either Bwindi or Mgahahinga). Then if you are still interested in more trekking (which I HIGHLY recommend because it's such a uniquely beautiful area) they can also arrange for you to trek in Mgahinga NP which is the gorilla park that borders Rwanda and Congo. I climbed Mt. Sabinyo and it was one of the most rewarding things of my life. They also do a canoe trek which is a very interesting cultural experience on Lake Bunyonyi, the most beautiful lake in the world.

All the info can be found on their website www.edirisa.org/travels.
