Hello there,
My friends who are volunteering in our project in kenya are intrestead in trekking mt.elegon in late september.Anybody who has been there of late?How is the situation?They wanted to do it from kenyan side but i am afraid of the security issiue.Do you know of a freelance giude or a tour operator in Uganda which can help us to organize this tour?plz help.Any other advice will be highly appreciated.Thanks in advance.

My boyfriend and I did this last August. We trekked the Sasa route from the Ugandan side (bus to Mbale and then shared taxi on to Budadiri), and then back down to Sipi which is a fab place to chill afterwards.

It's very easy to organise - you just turn up at the National Park Office in Budadiri the day before you want to go and book a guide. If you want porters you get them there too. Very cheap - easily less than USD50 all in if you share one porter between you. We took our own food, camping stoves, tents, sleeping bags etc. Although I think you could pay for them to do food, I'm pretty sure you need your own camping kit. It's cold at night and you might well get rain.

It's quite a tough trek but it is beautiful, and there's hardly anyone else up there.
