Hi,

What's the best and/or cheapest way to travel from Entebbe airport to Red Chilli hostel just outside Kampala city center?

Thanks.

Not sure if a bus runs from there now, but when I was there in 06, one of the guys I travelled with went from red chilli in a taxi to Entebbe. If I remember it cost him about 80$us return.
Not much help I know, bit may be the only way.
Red chilli was a great place to stay, so you should enjoy.
One thought, see if you can contact red chilli and they may be able to give you advice on the best/cheapist way to go.

Hi

I was there in 2006 as well and I paid 50 us for a cap to the backpackers hostel (which is by the way the best hostel in Kampala!!!). The red chillies is good for tourbooking, but thats it!
Anyway, you can get a mini bus from entebbe to kampala (2-5 us). They drop you off at the "old taxi-park" and from there you can jump on a taxibike to either red chillis or the bacpackers! Again, the backpackers hostel is placed in the city center, which makes the taxibike a lot cheaper (2 dollars). A motorbike to the red chillis is about 10 dollars! Anyway, total costs from entebbe airport to the red chillies: 20 us tops by public transport!

Cheapest: You can take a matatu from Entebbe to the Old Taxi Park (about 5 USD). From the park, board a matatu to either Luzira or Biina Mutungu. Tell the conductor you are going to Red Chilli. He will drop you at a shell station at a Y in the road. Walk up the road to the left, and you will see a sign to Red Chilli on the left.

Best (in my opinion) - Boarding a matatu from Entebbe is hectic, especially is you've already been traveling. I would recommend taking a taxi from the airport to town. This should cost you 70,000 UGX. If you don't have shillings, ask your driver to take you to an ATM first in Entebbe so you can get money to pay him. Have him drop you off on Kampala road near Nandos, where you can pick a matatu to Bugolobi/Luzira, which will drop you at the shell station where you can walk to Red Chilli. The matatu will cost you 1000 UGX.

If you have alot of luggage, try negotiating with your cab to take you all the way to red chili.

Have fun!

I stayed at Red Chili in December 09 and they organised a taxi to pick me and my partner up at a discounted price. Having never been to Uganda before it took us a day or so to know how much the minibuses should be charging, and if you're just coming off a plane with luggage and are tired, it's probably best to get a taxi. However, you should be able to contact Red Chili about this and they should be able to book one for you at their own rates.

if you;re spending 50$+ you;re better off gettign a free night in an upper class B n B. there are a couple of place sin entebbe that will pick u up form the airport free of charge if you spend the night. right now i can't remember th enam eof th eplace that i stayed at, but a full sweat, with private bath was 35$. it's run a a belgian family who also run a safari company. the counpoudn is amazing, and relaxing and the staff are great.
it's walking distance from the taxi parc in entebbe, or a boda boda ride will cost 1000 shillings. from the taxi parc, you can take a matatu to kampala for 5000shillings
also, and very rarely, there is a matatu shuttle that goes from the taxi parc to the airport, but it's very infrequent and unreliable.

if you want to get to kampala faster, the best bet owuld be to take a private hire taxi to entebbe taxi park, at the very most, this shoudl cost 20,000 shillings, but the real price shoudl be around 10,000-15,-000.
