I'm off to Rwanda and Uganda next week and the trip is pretty much planned. I still have a few questions that I haven't been able to find answers to elsewhere so hopefully somebody here will be able to help.

  • After gorilla tracking in Ruhengeri I need to transfer to Kisoro. The guidebooks suggest that there is readily available transport from the border to Kisoro. Can anyone confirm if this is the case, and also what the going rate is?
  • Is there anywhere at the border where we can convert USD to USH?
  • We will be returning again to Rwanda and will need to get from Kabale to Kigali. I have the same questions as above regarding the Kabale-border leg - availability and cost of transport? Can I get cross border transport, or will I have to do it in two legs?

Any help you can offer with the above would be much appreciated.

No info about the Kisoro public transport.
Money changing at the border is always more expensive than in town. But competition makes the prices kind of fair.
Kabale to Kigali can easily be done in 1 day. Taxi's leave regularly from the buspark in Kabale. Cross the border and get in a shuttle or another taxi. I can't remember the prices, but ask a local for a reasonable price.

Thanks for that. I won't change much at the border, $100 max, just to tide me over for the initial expenses.
