I'm wondering if someone can say what the cusp of the rainy season is like in the Rwenzoris. I'll be going around the 10th of December and I was wondering if a trek then would be a total washout/mudbog.

Thanks,
Andy

Definitely not a good time to be hiking the Ruwenzoris unless you are extremely lucky. But the rain/dry seasons are not as distinct as they used to be so outside of January/February (the best time) and June/July (next best) it's probably one of the next best. Take your wellington boots and good luck!

Well, you might be in for a surprise! The rainy seasons have totally SHIFTED in Uganda. At the moment, August, the high of the dry season, it is pouring down every day. And during the last wet season, it was totally dry. This has been going on for a couple of years now. In other words, cant base yourself on publicised rainy seasons, they apparently are merging (Sep-Dec / March-June is becoming July-Oct).

So December should be good. Even if it were rainy season then, it should be the short ones, no problemo.

I was in the Rwenzoris in December 2006. I believe the exact dates of my hike were December 12-18. During this time, it only rained twice. It rained from the late afternoon on one day, then through that night (rained approximately 18 hours straight). Then, in the morning it was not raining, but by mid-afternoon it was raining again...but only for a couple hours. So, if the weather is like it was in 2006, I'd assume you'd get a few days of rain.
