Good day folks!
Anyone have recommendations on where to stay in Soroti for a couple of nights? I am on my way to Moroto but want to break my journey. I am backpacking, so don't need anything fancy. Just relatively clean and safe. Advice appreciated! Thank you!

Wow - in more than 5 years of surfing TT across East Africa some one has finally mentioned this small place (around 42000 pop) I will be visiting (in early August). According to the most recent Bradt guidebook for Uganda their is the Soroti Hotel (reported as recently having been renovated) phone 0414 561269 and its about 1 km out of town. Other places mentioned are the Golden Ark & Garden Guesthouses (reported as having decent self-contained rooms); also the Savanna Hotel & Company Inn (single and double rooms - shared showers). No contact details.

Just in passing why or how did you select Soroti??

Thanks!!
Soroti Hotel sounds great. It's weird that no one has posts on Soroti on TT as Mike mentions!
I am actually going up to Moroto for a couple months and wanted to stop over for the night.
Safe travels!

Well I have just returned from a very short visit to Soroti. I was there to see my World Vision sponsored child. I stayed in the Hotel Soroti - a very amazing place. 50 rooms - some very good (with DSTV). I would rate it at 2 1/2 stars considering the local and the very rough road from Mbale. Dinner/bed/breakfast was 75000 Ush room & breakfast; 17500 Usm meal. There are also a number of guest houses which I saw from the road as we drive past, they looked ok - upmarket back-packer style - I did not go in or check on prices. If you are going there - contact World Vision (in Soroti or Kampala) and they should be able to help - but be prepared for a rough trip.

I stayed at Garden Guest House. It was about 30,000 UGX. Nice self-contained room. In fact, it was like a banda. Breakfast included. No other food however, but Soroti is so small that you can get to the main streets and back in no time. Very friendly people. Not much to do in Soroti, I was only stopping on my way to Moroto for 2 months.
There is a couple restaurants near the bus station. People are definitely the nicest I have ever met. Very hospitable!
