Hello!

I've got about a week in Uganda to relax and I'm looking for ideas on what to do. I've been to Kampala once before but only for work and made it to Jinja for a day so not really looking to go there again. I'm hoping these days will be filled with relaxation (nice places by the lake? decent hotels with pools?), good restaurants and comfortable mid-range, good value hotels (with power, own bathroom). Will likely be based in Entebbe, possibly Kampala, but will be traveling back to Sudan by bus so if there are interesting places to stop along the way that could be possible.

Any ideas from those of you with lots of experience on what could be nice to do for a few days? You favourite places in Entebbe/Kampala?

Thanks :)

Thanks Kira.

A new caveat...where do expats in Kampala go for a weekend away? Any nice relaxing places with a bit of charm?

Kampala ex-pats go to QE NP, Murchison NP, Lake Bunyoni (paddle around in a dugout canoe) or Sipi Falls (Mt Elgon) for weekends. I would recommend the latter for a relaxing weekend with a bit of walking thrown in.

I'd recommend The Haven in Jinja. It's close to Entebbe/Kampala, has magnificent views and food, is very chilled out and you can go on Horseback safari or white water rafting from there. The price is quite reasonable : starting from $60 per night/full board. Regarding more distant travellings I'd recommend not to go to lake Bunyonyo as the drive itself will take you at least 8 hours and even more if you travel by public transport (regardless what they claim it should take =) ). Sipi Falls would be a good choice for more active weekend. Murchinson falls should be considered as well if interested in animals and can afford to spend 5 hours (roughly) on the road.
The most popular place among expats in Kampala is definitely Bubbles, though there are a few other options to chose from depending on interests and budget.
I hope that was helpful.
