Hi

I am travelling between Addis and Cape town, and thinking of making a detour Kenya to Uganda before heading to Tanzania.
In Kenya I will try to visit Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru.
Is the wildlife in Murchison in comparison with the above mentioned?
As it is a substancial detour in my budget trip, I think of skipping it.
Do you think it is a wise decision ?
Thank you for replying

If you do a search here you will note that I love Murchison.

Is it worth the detour? Probably not unless you will already be in Uganda for gorillas or other activities.

Peace,

BB

Murchison is great, but I think in terms of seeing the 'big 5' your chances are much greater in Kenya. When I went to Murchison we were lucky to see a pride of lions, apparently this was very rare where as in masai mara seeing animals such as lions is very common.

You won't see as many animals but those you do see you will have to yourself - no car jams in Murchison. I love Murchison and saw huge groups of elephants and giraffe, one lion and one leopard on three visits but if it's going to be your only safari experience then go to Kenya. Uganda really needs a trip of its own, preferably a minimum of three weeks.

I love Murchison and second SipiMan's comments. You are highly unlikely to see any big cats but it's lovely and private. The birds alone are stunning (the colours are unbelievable) so if you like the smaller things as opposed to traffic and sleeping lions then it's lovely. If a safari is a big thing for you then I would also second Kenya.
