Hello,

My husband and I will be arriving in Entebbe around Jan. 16 or 17th. We plan to spend 2-3 weeks traveling either only Uganda or both -Uganda and Rwanda. We want to hire a car, but know the costs can be pretty high...$75-200/day. Or better yet drive ourselves. In that case, we would prefer to drive with other travelers! This is our first time anywhere in Africa. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you and would love to hook up with others...we want to see the highlights of Uganda and Rwanda as our time is limited.

Hi,

Self drive is great but a guide would do no harm'

My advice to you is to hire a car with a guide as it's your first time in Africa so that you can be properly introduced in detail about the beautiful nature of Africa.

Hi D and D

if it helps, run back through my old posts re. Uganda and its highlights (i think just click on my name and then you can read them). I invest a lot of time in this forum from my time living in Uganda and there might be some snippets of information in there that you can pick up.

I dont know what your budget and requirements are as a couple visiting Uganda, but if you head to somewhere like Kampala Backpackers or Red Chili (both in Kampala - you dont have to stay there, just go for a beer and ask the question) you will probably find other travellers willing to share the costs of getting a car although this is by no means guaranteed. though you will definitely be able to to at least get some money off people who perhaps just want to go to the same first destination as yourselves (say, for example Fort Portal) and then repeat the process when you get there. I know this is not ideal but every little might help.

Rwanda might be more difficult as there are less tourists but it is also a much smaller country with fewer landmarks, so anyone you do meet will be more likely to be going the same way as you and able to share the car. I personally would skip Rwanda as Uganda has more than enough to offer and you will arrive at somewhere like Lake Bunyonyi and decide to stay for some time!! (IF the weather is good! i froze there once!)

Please PM me if you need any help with anything

For Christ sake, stop impersonating - Magoba IS the manager of "Uganda Kob Safaris". Whatever you do, do NOT use them.

Hi
The min standard rate for a good car in Rwanda $100 without fuel and guide if you have somebody to shere the costing I would to recommend you contact one the tour company . Do not accept cheaper cars since they may have many problems! Go private with a guide, if expensive, you may have to revise the number of days you are hiring it. I would recommend a individal or friend com to organise your tours in Uganda $ Rwanda a good car. GOOD LUCK
