Re: Kibale
That's the way I did it. Went to the bus station in Kampala the day before to ask when the earliest bus to Fort Portal was. Showed up at dawn the next day, waited an hour and off we went.
Got to Fort Portal and went to the matutu stand. Waited until it was full, then off to Kibale. They let you off at the gate and you walk up to the little kiosk, tell them how many days you plan to stay and pay for that and the number of chimp treks you want to do. You do not drive to the chimps, from the bandas at the UWA camp they just guide you by foot to the where they think the chimps are. I did three treks and saw chimps each time.
Don't expect great chimp photos like you do the gorillas. The chimps can be dangerous, but they are also leary of humans and you can't get close to them. The guides will also point ourt a lot of forest lore while you are trekking - I enjoyed it immensely!! There are LOTS of other primates you have a chance at seeing - baboons, colobus monkees, etc.
