Hi

I am travelling with my parents who are quite elderly to intially Kenya for a safari and then on Jinja (Uganda) in early Oct.

We were planning to hire a jeep and go across by road from Nairobi to Jinja. I have a few questions.

* How long will this take?
* How much would this cost?
* Are there any reputable taxi companies who do this?
* Are there any places to see on the way?
* Are there any comfortable places to stay on the way?
* Will this journey be safe?
* What condition are the roads in?
* Could we directly from our safari on the Masai Mara to Jinja?
* Is the border crossing straight forward?
* Would you recommend flying instead to Entebbe instead?

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks
Jeetinder

You should fly and then rent a car in Kampala or take a driver to Jinja.

That will avoid the long drive for your parents and the hassles/cost of having to take a rental car across the border and dropping it in Kampala. (If you can even find a company to do it!)

Flying is of course your easiest option.

Border crossings are straight forward enough.

The roads are poor tar sealed with ruts deep enough to rip your sump out.

Buses and taxis are both possible but why bother. It will be uncomfortable for them.

Do as retiree suggests, fly and drive.

Cheers and good luck.
