Could someone review my planned I itinairy of 20 days (whats good, whats bad, whats missing and what needs changing) which does not include gorrila trecking as it is not my cup of tea and the permit price is a lot. Furthermore could some one reccomend any places to camp that have swimming pools as that is what my family wants in order to agree to join me on my trip. I would also like to know of a place to stay in rwenzori that is high up and can be driven too as after previously driving through it I realise it's pure beauty.

This is the very loose 19/20 day itinairy

13th 1 day in Entebbe
14th 2 days sesse islands
16th 5 day in kamuzinda (orphanage in masaka part of the Pearl of Africa childrens choir)
20th 4 days in Queen elizebeth national park and rwenzori mountains
24th 5 days in Murchison falls
28th 2 days jinja
31st day home

Finally could some one tell me is 1st class on the ferry to the Sesse Islands a good idea eg. really nice or is 2nd class better as you mix more with ugandans.

Thanks a lot !!!!!! :D

Hi,

I cannot say which is good and which is bad in your planed itinerary, and you don't need to use a ferry to sesse island, you organize a family boat from Entebbe town to sesse island. Its just 10 km from Airport to boarding place, its second class boat but its enjoyable with no Ugandans on board and its low price.

Camping with swimming pools is available, like in queen Elizabeth park,Murchison falls park,Jinja, and Masaka, But you need to pay some amount of money as you want camping Accommodation but if you are to stay in lodges like mweya lodge in queen ,Paraa lodge in Murchison, you just need to pay fulboard basis which includes swimming.
Addition in your itinerary:
-Rafting in Jinja.
-visit source of the Nile.
-Rhino sanctuary between Kampala and Murchison fall park.
-Drum maker in Mpambire masaka road.
-Visit the equator also on Masaka road.
-visit the crocodile farm also on Masaka road near equator.
-Nature walk also is advisable.
-See climbing Lions in southern part of queen Elizabeth park ishasa sector.
-Visit lake katwe viewing how local people get salt for human consumption also on boundaries of queen park.

Don't forget 1 day city tour which includes;
-Kabaka's palace.
-Namugongo martyrs shrine.
-Bahai's temple.
-Kasubi tombs,But per now is under construction you may not get chance to visit the tombs.
-Uganda museum.
We have people in Uganda which can really plan for your toiler made safaris.

Don't forget rain gears as weather is an predictable in Uganda/warm jackets.

In Rwenzori Mountains camping places are available and lodges you can choose camping or lodging.

If you are planing to hike Mt. Rwenzori

Mt.Rwenzori + Margherita central circuit should be at least 7 days and more

Mt.Rwenzori without the peak should be at least 5 days
If you are driving through, that is fine

In Kasese you can sleep at Margherita hotel.

5 days in Murchison falls is lot of time. 3 days will be enough
A visit to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary will be great.

If you camp in QENP and go for a swim at the Lodge you have to pay extra per person - I am not sure, but it will be around 5-10 US Dollars each!

Just a quick ask, you mention driving around the Ruwenzories before? Does this mean that you have been to Uganda previously as there is a lot on your itinerary that I would say is missing if I was going to recommend a 'must see' visit to Uganda.

Im guessing that the orphanage is a large part of why you are coming (back) to Uganda? as 5 days is an awful long time for just a visit there unless you really want to get involved

5 days is also a long time to spend at Murch. and it takes a long time to get there, the game will be no different to QEP and if it is just the falls you are going for, its a long slog and you can do a launch cruise down in QEP which is pretty similar (minus the falls)

In Kasese, there is the Rwenzori Mountaineering Services lodge, which you will see on the road up to the mountains, just past this there is a guesthouse/hostel which is right under the mountains, i forget the name but its in the LP guide i believe. It will probably be empty and getting food will take longer than driving to get it as they have to get ingredients in, but its a lovely setting near a local village.

Things you are missing in my opinion are

Kampala - bonkers capital is the most fun you can have in East Africa

Lake Bunyonyi - A lake isnt called the most beautiful in the world without it being pretty good - you can also swim in it so it negates the need to find a pool for the family - camp at Crater Bay cottages

Kisoro - Africa's Switzerland of volcanoes is achingly beautiful from any of its two hundred or so craters

Thanks for all your replies. And yes I have been to Uganda before but only the orphanage and Queen elizibeth and through the moutains. As all have said 5 days is a long time in Murchison falls but it's more like 3 days if you count the traveling. I have taken the advice about Kampala and will now finish the trip with a night and day in Kampala.

Could some one also clarify are the animals the same at murchison falls as queen elizibeth accept for the girrafe that are only available at murchison falls? If so does that mean murchison falls is the winner?

Both parks have similar wild life apart from giraffes that are only present in Murchison falls.

Murchison falls is bigger than Queen elizabeth and has more wild life compared to that of Queen elizabeth.

If you have a lot of time to spend go for Murchison falls.
If days are limited, go for QENPK,
It is easier to connect from Queen elizabeth to Rwenzori

I think Murchison also has Zebra as they moved them from QEP to avoid them getting killed by the lions (this is what someone at the Ugandan Wildlife Authority told me!)

I would skip the falls and do lake Bunyonyi instead, its just a few hours from QEP and the Ruwenzories, in fact your base for both of these will be Kasese, which is about 3-5 hours from Lake Bunyonyi

Obviously the lake is no good if you just want to see game, but Uganda isnt really about game unless its Gorillas or Chimps

If you have been to QEP before though then perhaps you will prefer the falls, its just a long way to come down to the mountains from Entebbe and then back up to the falls and then back to Kampala

I took the ferry to Ssese Islands, 2nd class, it was fine - a little cramped.

If you have more time on the islands, Banda Island is definitely worth checking out. Much better than Kalangala.
