I work for an social impact focused company and will be in Kampala on Nov 3,4,5. I am traveling from Seattle and will be stopping in Kampala on my way to Tanzania. Looking to connect with fellow ex-pats and locals interested in energy, education, photography, design, technology. What might be good places to meet interesting people and have fun conversations with?

Kisimenti and Kololo have lots of expat clubs and bars - Just Kicking, Fat Boys, Iguana, Mish Mash, Bubbles O'Leary and Casablanca, just to name a few. It's about an even mix of expats and locals. The malls, Garden City and Nakumatt Oasis, also bastions of expat-ness. Prunes is another expatty place. Especially on weekends during breakfast/brunch. They have people selling produce and handicrafts on the grounds.

But my personal favorite is Quartier Matonge. Good live Congolese music. Though a little ways out of town and not exactly easy to find if you didn't know the way. But I guess you could say that about lots of places in Kampala.

I agree with Striking Star also there is the Nando's and pizza place off Parliament. There are really not that many expats that I ran into during my week or so in Kampala. The Ugandans are for the most open and friendly and you will meet somebody that will take you around and show you a good time. If you haven't been to Kampala before you are in for a surprise....I've never seen such a spectacle as rush hour in downtown Kampala. The boda's are only about $1-2 anywhere in the city.
Have fun.
