I will be traveling to Ghana in August and would like to travel to Uganda. can anyone suggest the best way to get from point to point? Do I need a travel visa to get into Uganda. This will be my first trip to the continent.

Imelda,

Be aware that the distance between those two countries is 3761.13 km /2337.06 miles. Overland transportation isn't straight forward: many roads won't be good due to travel seacon, some countries aren't safe at the moment, an Ethiopian visa CANNOT be picked up at the border and a flight will cost you over $1000US easily between those points. Isn't there another country nearby that you'd like to visit?

Is #2 mad suggesting that route through Africa overland via Chad especially to a first timer???!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fly there, but thinking about it, your options are limited, probably best to use either Kenya Airways or Ethiopian; no one flies there directly

The best way will be to fly (as kira said in #4, Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airways are your main options). It won't be cheap though.

We can't provide info about visa requirements if we don't know what passport do you hold.

drivingafrica said in #2: From Ghana you travel east toward Salaga, via Nigeria, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya to Uganda!

It's obvious you don't know geography (Ghana and Nigeria don't share a border, Chad and Ethiopia don't share a border...).

drivingafrica said in #2: Hope it makes sense.

It doesn't make any sense at all. Not only the route you suggested omits several countries you would have to pass if you want to make it overland but the info you provided about roads is also wrong, the info you provided about visas is inaccurate (at best), you didn't include any info about safety along the route (which would be relevant in this case)...

#2 is just a sub-par scamming spammer trying to drive traffic to a commercial website.

The correct answer is....flying, of course, via Addis or Nairobi.

Edit to add: I guess the mods removed post #2 more promptly than is customary, turning a lot of subsequent comments into non sequiturs.

Wow, wanted to visit with an NGO there but based on your comments that is not a good option right now. Thanks for the feed back. I will keep Uganda on my bucket list.

Note to those that are just reading this: I believe that there was another response (#2) that has since been removed and that I am not the #2 that Kira and markharf are referring to since I am actually discouraging going overland and have been never been accused before of being a scammer.

Viaggero is 100% right but unfortunately Mark's reply 'now' refers to the wrong 2!!

Some SA (I believe) travel company came up with an absurd suggestion of an overland route, who obviously has no idea of travelling in those areas or the countries involved - I think it was mentioned that you could cross the border between Chad & Ethiopia or something like that!

Viaggero - public apology for not answering your mail - will be onto it soon, manic here!
