my wife and me are going to Uganda in December. We are backpackers. Do you know how to book gorilla trek for Bwindi? We called to UWA in Kampala and operator told us some free days for treking, but she also said, that it isn´t possible to book at their office and that we have to book trek at some uganda travel agency. Why?

If UWA has permits available for the date you want, they should be able to sell them to you. Was it a question of method of payment -- they couldn't take credit cards or something? Sounds like a mix-up or a miscommunication to me; I would recommend you call UWA again and see if you can get a straighter answer from them.

Dear friend, if your tracking date was 24th december.2010, i would be of help. I know of a budget group tracking gorillas on the 24th bwindi and 26th rwanda. There are 2 free gorilla permits for nkuringo family in bwindi forest.
Otherwise if UWA has no permits for your travel dates just believe them. The intake for gorilla tracking is only 8 people and can not exceed that number. May be try contacting tour operators since some of them secure permits in advance for their clients.You might be lucky to get permits for your travel dates.
