My husband and I are planning on being in Uganda in the first week in March. We haven't booked with a company yet to see the Gorrilas and were wondering if we coud leave this until we arrived in Kampala, We know the permits can be hard to get hold of, is it necessary to get one in advance (if so how long) , or can we pick one up the day befroe we leave Kampala. If we do do this trek with a company are there any recommendations for budget companies with a good reputation. The plan is to do a 3 trip from and returning to Kampala

If you have the time you can get to and from the gorilla parks using public transport and can then visit other sights in the area without going back to Kampala. If you have limited time then an organized tour is probably better, though far more expensive. Search on this forum and you will find recommendations.

I would recommend self-drive for ultimate flexibility. The country is very easy to navigate and some places are difficult to get to on public transport.
