booked my tickets to uganda for new year and now need place to stay. banda hills at tank hill area of kampala look good and get a great review on tripadvisor. anyone stayed there and what do you think. also what not to miss in the kampala area.

Not much toursity to "see" in Kampala, except maybe the tombs.
HOWEVER!
- check out Luwero market in the day
- go to any of the excellent restaurants: Khana Khazana, Kwai Thai, le Chateau
- go out: Iguana, Rouge, Kyoto
- watch drunk volunteering girls at Bubbles/Olearys in the weekend
- go clubbing: Silk, Ange Noir
- pick a live concert (hundreds of them - look at the publicity on the walls)
- check the local hooker places for a good laugh: Rock Garden, and if course Al's Bar (after 4 AM in the morning)

Uganda is my favourite country in Africa, and one of the absolute highlights on my last trip there, was stumbling upon Tuhende Safari Lodge in Old Kampala (Plot 8 Martini Road ). Good, cheap accomodation and the most wonderful food in the restaurant.
It opened last year, and is managed by Sam (Shamsee), who also is the chef. And what a chef!
His family moved to Canada in the 70's, when Amin kicked out the asians. (He is of Indian origin.) He used to have a couple of restaurants in Vancouver, wrote cookbooks, and was the preferred chef of many film stars (Kevin Costner wanted to have him cook for him on his yacht). But now he is back in Uganda, and cooks excellent food in this simple, little street restaurant. We ended up staying in Kampala a week longer than intended - just because we loved this place so much. Don't miss it!
