I am interested in learning more about Africa, pre-colonial to post colonial including the current situation, and I picked up a text book at the local Univ but rather than just read it in my off time I would like to study Africa in Africa. I know that I would like to visit Ghana and other countries but that aside I would like it to be part of an organized program, hopefully with a work-study option so as not to run up a huge debt to pay for it. does anyone know of such a program? any suggestions?

also, is it possible to take a boat all the way uo the Congo river? i heard that it was. any info on this?

If you have several months free and loads of patience, yes, it may be possible to take a boat all the way on the Congo river. Studying in Congo? Infrastructure is bad, real bad. Availability of books is very limited.
