Windhoek to airport

Country forums / Africa / Namibia

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get from Windhoek, probably The Cardboard Box, to the international airport - eg bus, taxi, etc. I guess I am looking for all options, not just cheapest.

Also anyone who has climbed the dunes before, what are the best sort of shoes to wear - joggers/sandshoes or boots.

Thanks in advance.

I normally get taxi, preferably shared with other travellers to cut down on cost. Cardboardbox or Chameleon or indeed any guest house will organise one for you if you are staying with them. No recollection of cost, sorry.
Tried climbing the dunes, but gave up . Wore sandals but that had nothing to do with the giving up.

I started the climbing with my running shoes, but the sand got into my shoes, my socks, everywhere! a lot of people climbed in sandalls, even barefoot!

The sand gets in everywhere. I wore vibram five-fingers (google it to see) and still had sand in them when I got down again. It is a hard climb and I would suggest sandels or barefeet but you might want to bring light sandels up with you in case the sand starts getting hot by the time you come down.

You will never make it to the top in boots! It looks easier than it is!!!!

if you're going to wear closed-toed shoes, get some that are a half size or one size larger... your feet are going to swell up like f* in the heat...

(this is for Nam in general but especially for the dunes)
