Which order between Yem, Erit, Ethiop and Djib?

Country forums / Africa / Ethiopia

I posted this a short while ago, but just realized that it may be in the wrong place, and not (so) many people will see it. I have cut, and now paste it, here.

Hullo Raphi, especially, and others,

I am heading for Socotra for a week towards the end of May (visiting friends who are working there). I intend to travel around (mainland) Yemen for a week or so after that, and then move onto Djibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia (but not necessarily in the order). From reading Raphi's (and others') postings it seems that I had better not try to go from Ethiopia to Eritrea. Tourelle asks of another traveller (20/2/8)

From here (Tassy - a long way from anywhere!) the "best" order of travel is not obvious. Would people who are there, or know the area, like to suggest a suitable itinerary (well, order of countries/cities) for me which is possible and practical (and perhaps more economical in time and money) please?

Thanks in anticipation

You cannot cross between Ethiopia and Eritrea, there are also no direct flights between both countries. Going overland from Djibouti to Eritrea is also not feasible.

Therefore I guess there are only two solutions:
a) fly from San'a to Asmara, then fly to Djibouti, and go to Ethiopia;

b) fly from San'a to Djibouti, or take a dhow from Moqa or Aden to Djibouti, take a return flight to Eritrea (or skip the country) and then head to Ethiopia

Thanks udo1 for the suggestions. I will now start looking for comments on those "legs" e.g dhow from Aden to Djibouti, cost/availability/frequency of flights from Djib to Asmara, versus Sana'a to Asmara, etc.

udo1 is correct.
I do not know how much time you have, but if it is weeks and not months, then I would like to recom to skip Eritrea this time.
Flights to Eritrea and back are really expensive and you will see a lot in the other countries (I spend there already months and still I have not seen all)
