Whack computer keyboards

Does anyone have a solution or some words of consolation for my super-confused typing fingers? I just arrived in Morocco today to discover that both of the internet places I stopped by had keyboards set in formations my fingers are unaccostomed to. Typing has become so difficult and tedious, I,m worried I won,t get to do all the writing I,d hoped to while I,m here.

Does anyone know of a simple solution to this problem? Or a creative one? Tell me there,s a magic switch to make the keyboard Euro-fied so I can stop hunding and pecking and quit using commas as apostraphes! Or at the very least tell me there are some internet cafes that cater to Western tourist hands? Names of specific places would be much appreciated...

all keyboards will b arabic in format, but if u look at the bottom blur bar, sorry i dunno the technical name4it, u will c it says 'FR' right click on this and u can easily change the set up. Don't forget 2 change it back4them ahen u r finished though! Hope that helps :o)

I always have the same problem, so I just resort to the using only one or two fingers. I usually type over 70 words a minute, so using only one or two fingers drives me nuts. I never did quite figure out how to change the keyboard, even though I had read a solution similar to the one suggested by #1 above.
If there are any cybercafes with Western keyboards I have never found them anywhere in Morocco.

yep you can change them as described above

just as long as you know where the correct keys should be on an english keyboard. ie. if you set it to english, the keyboard might say "z" on it but when you press they key it might type a "y". just an example

that french keyboard drove me nuts too!

Thank you guys so much. I am so excited there is a solution on the horizen. Problem right now is that I,m not seeing the FR icon on the bottom toolbar. Is it only sometimes there? Maybe I,ll try a different internet cafe.

You can set up the "FR" icon. If the computer is Windows XP, here's how:

-Start menu
-Control panel
-Regional and Language options
-Languages tab
-Details

Add your desired languages, then go to "language bar" and make sure the first and last boxes are checked (you may have to uncheck all first in order to do this)

If the computer has 98 or XP is in French, just ask the cyber cafe worker to set up the "bar du langues"

These steps turn your keyboard into any keyboard you want (I prefer QWERTY), but you have to know how to type to use it, obviously.

Thank you so much for the detailed help! I'm actually now at a computer with the easy-to-use, FR-in the toolbar set-up. Oh so refreshing. But your detailed how-to steps should help me next time. Now all I need to do is learn some basic computer-French to navigate!

My favorite is "page vierge" - virgin page, or um, new page.

Wish there was an easy way to change the entire computer's language! Even though I'm a keyboard expert now, I still go crazy when I get stuck with French XP.

here its how to change the language in Xp in french:
-Dèmarrer.
-panneau de configuration.
-options regionales, date , heure, langue.
-Ajouter langue.
-details.
then select the language to start with and click on ok
note that sometimes if the windows is not installed well, the language desired to add does not appear and consequently will need the widows installation cd.

ADMIN: Please consider posting a video of how to do this. Changing the OS setting so the french keyboard works like a US one. It is like typing with two left hands.
