visa for transit

Country forums / Africa / Ethiopia

hello there

i was wondering if any one knew if you would require an ethiopian visa if you were to stay in ethiopia over night due to your connecting flight with ethiopian airlines from one african country to another being the next morning. if you do would sleeping at the airport be possible to avoid this requirement?

thanks in advance
be well
zac

Hi there
u dont need a transit visa, in fact if both your inward and outward flight is with ET the airline normally provides accommodation.

Huh? That's a new one for me. If you leave the transit area of an airport of any country, you will have to pass through immigration and therefore are IN that country; whether the airline pays for the entry/hotel costs is up to them. I've always had to go through immigration for stopovers ... are their airport hotels that you can stay at and not go through immigration?

In any event, there isn't one at Bole Airport so I would guess you're going to need a visa ... but shouldn't you be asking Ethiopia Airlines?
