Vehicle rental in Botswana

Looking for a reputable vehicle rental agency in either Maun or Gaborone. Has anyone rented a car/4x4 in Botswana? From what agency? Planning to self-drive to Zambia and Mozambique as well.

I can recommend McKenzi 4x4 (http://www.maunselfdrive4x4.com/contactinformation.htm) in Maun for 4x4 rental through Botswana. I am almost sure they do not allow vehicles to cross the borders - due to relevant insurances increasing the daily rental price.

Of ... you could arrive into Johannesburg and rent a fully kitted 4x4 from Bushlore (http://www.bushlore.com/). They will also be able to help with cross border information but will charge a cross border fee for taking the vehicle out of South Africa.

Rather spend a bit more on your vehicle rental and know that you have a good, well maintained vehicle with back-up support.

I am not sure if there are perhaps any other companies to consider - keep your eye on the blog for any further replies.

Hi R13, my advices is to rent a kitted vehicle from bushlore for the round trip, on the long run this will be cheaper as there will be no "pickup or fetch" fees involved if you hire in Botswana and drop it of in South Africa! Done bussiness with bushlore before and their vehicles are good.
