I'm planning a trip around the Mediteranean for next Feb. Part of this will include a stretch from Tunisia to Morocco. Libya is off limits due to obvious reasons but as much as Algeria gets a bad rep, I'd like if possible and feasable to travel through it on the way. I'm also trying to do this with as little flying as possible.
The plan will be to get a ferry from Marseille to Tunis and from there head West through Tunisia and Algeria, across to Spain and back to Morocco, then fly to Egypt and onwards (Middle East section will be another topic of discussion). From what I've found out so far, and what I'm looking for advice on are the following issues.
-
Tunisian/Algerian border crossing, I've read the safest and best one to use is the Northernmost, Oum-Tboul. However getting there from Tabarka in Tunisia, and onwards to Annaba in Algeria is a blank spot at the moment. Any advice on public transport/general safety in this area would be appreciated.
-
Oran or Ghazaouet to Almeria (Spain) and then into Melilla/Nador to avoid the land border between Algieria and Morocco. Happy to get a ferry and get into Morocco this way, but advice on the border and onwards travel options from Melilla/Nador would be needed.
-
General safety, public transport (trains and busses), language tips (can survive in France with my French) and any other travelling tips I'd need to know around Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt.
I've been doing research, reading travellers reports etc from similar excursions from a few years ago but anything more up to date would be helpful. I wont be doing this alone, but I'll be the main organiser of the whole trip so I need all the information and advice I can get.
Thanks,
Felix
