Good day,
I did a quick search on “Visa’s” and a ton of stuff came up, nothing what I was looking for though… If this has already been posted, my apologies…
I’m leaving on a RTW trip in April of this year. One of stops is Africa where I’m booked on a tour from Cape Town to Nairobi. I am having difficulties regarding info on the Tanzania & Kenya visas… I tried going though a “visa” service due to time constraints and they said that the visas are valid for three months as soon as I get them… In short, if I wanted to get the visas ahead of time I’d have to wait until I’m in the middle of my RTW (Argentina at that point) and mail them my passport… I am 100% against doing that….
My question is, if I did manage to change my flights and arrive In South Africa a couple of days early would that be enough time to visit the Kenya / Tanzania Embassy in Pretoria and get the visas????
Just curious cause the visa service says 16 days @ $165 CDN….
Or any other ideas of how to go about getting them??? I wanted to try to stay away from the get them when you arrive in that country mainly because of the whole “I’m on a tour” fact….
Oh I’m from Canada to if that matters at all…
Thanks,
Chris

My first suggestion is to contact your overland group and ask them what they recommend. You just might be the millionth Canadian to go on their tour and could win you a prize (seriously). The tour operators are pretty specific on visas in regards to procedures as a passenger without proper documentation could bring up some huge hassles not only for the person, but the whole group as I am sure they are not allowed to leave you at some border posts with the amusing African saying "Sorry for you."
Kenya and Tanzania visas are perhaps in the top five of ease to get. They are both hugely tourist sponsored so the $50US each that they are going to get from you is done with the least amount of hassle. I got both of mine while in Rwanda as entering through the west is a bit sketchy.
I definitely would not get them from home unless requested by the tour company and sending your passport away while in Argentina might get you in a bit of trouble as you do need a passport in most South American countries police/immigration/clubs/banks, etc.
Good travels.

you can get a tanzania visa on arrival at the border, no problem
i expect it's the same with Kenya but you need to check that
I would be very surprised if, with a Canadian passport, you can't get both at the border. You certainly can with a UK passport.
Your overland company should be able to give you a definite answer.

Thanks for your replies, they helped quite a bit. So now I’ll just check with the overland company and figure out if I’m better to change my flights and get the visa’s at the Embassy’s in Pretoria, South Africa or if they allow us to get them at the borders (which would be much preferred)
Thanks again,
Chris
