Rwanda at ChristmasCountry forums / Africa / Rwanda
I'm living in Uganda at the moment and am thinking of spending Christmas and New Year in Rwanda. I'm a bit worried about travelling over Christmas though. I'm wondering how difficult it will be to find accommodation and travel around by public transport. Also, how long do things close for over Christmas? That aside, does anyone have any recommendations as to where I should spend Christmas day? Ideally somewhere where they would be other people to spend the day with as I will be travelling on my own (if there's anyone else in a similar situation please feel free to get in touch). I'm on a budget so nowhere too expensive, but I could probably afford to spend a little bit as it will be Christmas! I'm also looking for recommendations of ways to spend New Year's. Thanks,
Most Rwandans are Christian, so you will meet a lot of people if you attend the christmas mass in a church, for example Cathedrale Saint Michel in downtown Kigali. Local culture, music and singing for free! | 1
About accommodation there is a nice and cheap church-run hostel next the Saint Michel Cathedral. I tried finding the phone number for you but I couldn't. I know it is quite popular among Peace Corp volunteers so find one of them and ask for the details :) Last year I spent Christmas in Kampala, Uganda. Africans sure know how to really celebrate things. I am not religious but attending a Christmas mass was quite an experience. | 2
Thanks for the recommendations. What about outside Kigali? Where else would be good to spend Christmas? | 3
