Will be going to Egypt next Feb/March for a quick 2 week break with my partner and baby (who will be 1.5) and also my parents ( on site baby sitters!). Trying to get everyone to be happy on a budget is very hard. We have decided to do a package, much to mine and my partners disgust but it will be easier with baby and olds!! We want to dive, they want to sunbathe (easy!),BUT we also cant stand the idea of being stuck in a resort surrounded by desert with nothing to see. So are any of the resorts, other than Sharm, as we are on a very small budget, anything more than just hotels?
Dahab looks good. Haven’t been there yet but I’m off there next month for a fortnight. | 1
Dahab is a pleasant place, with several short excursions that could add variety. | 2
Sharm and Hurghada are the places you're going to be offered by travel agencies but you should avoid them at any costs, except if you like being crowded with thousands of tourists and paying ten times the usual prices while walking under palm trees in plastic. | 3
What's the average age in Dahab, though? My worry is that Dahab and Nuweiba are all for people in their 20's. More power to you ... but I'm a couple decades off! | 4
Dahab has people of all ages. It's got a comprehansive range of accommodation. The social life in the evening centers more around eating than drinking, probably because most people are divers. | 5
As above Dahab is a great place. One of the advantages Dahab has over Sharm is that there is plenty of good shore diving whereas the best diving from sharm requries travelling a bit by boat. Most dive sites around Dahab are within 15mins drive and all the dive centres provide transport - the diving is not as varied as in sharm but the experience is real easy going! Enjoy | 6
