problems with visa at rwanda border

just crossed border uganda to rwanda, i us citizen had no problem but my travelling partner from finland was stopped for more than 1/2 hr and drilled in military fashion asking her why she didn't have visa in advance? she would have to go back to kampala to apply or back to uganda and apply on line. asking her why she believed the lonely planet stating you could get visa at border and this is not a official website, about to turn her back and in tears i produced the bank statements for gorilla permits saying we were just 2 old ladys going to see gorillas , he then let up and stated he would process them and let her in. our taxi driver said they were turning people away without visa. also i understand they are now charging canadians $50. but then we talked to 2 belgium men who tryed to get visa on line from home no luck had to go to rwanda embassy 4 times to get them, but italians got them on line. whatever good luck if your fit and healthy see the gorillas in uganda and skip rwanda was problems from the start. theresa the traveller
