Pemba to Likoma Islands & Nkhata Bay.Country forums / Africa / Mozambique
Hi Guys, I fly to Pemba at the end of December where I plan to spend a few days with the possibility of trip to the Archipelagos Quissanga, is this worth a visit as I will also visit Illa Mocambique later in the trip? From Pemba I plan to head inland to Lichinga and then on to Cobue so I can cross over to the Likoma Islands & Nkhata Bay in Malawi. I have a copy of the LP Mozambique but it's over 2 years old now so some of the info may well be out of date. It mentions that it takes about 3 days in a well equipped 4 wheel drive from Montepuez to Lichinga? Does anyone have any experience of this? How much does this cost & where can this be organized? Also, can I arrange transport in Pemba, if so where can I do this? I am a budget traveller and travelling rough is fine!!Thanks for any info in advance!! JMF.
From Ilha de Moz you can get across to Lichinga in a minimum of 3 days. Take a bus or minibus from Ilha to Nampula (you may have to change buses at Monapo), catch a train next morning from Nampula to Cuamba (unless it is not running on that particular day), take a minibus taxi from Cuamba to Mandimba and another to Lichinga.
