Namibian far south vs. far east (with Victoria Falls)Country forums / Africa / Namibia
We (2 people) are just starting planning a travel in Namibia for next August (in self-drive). We will visit for sure the "central" area of the country, let's say (in random order) Namib desert, Swakopmund and around, Damaraland, Etosha etc. If we have time for visiting more remote regions, do you think we should concentrate on the far south (Fish River Canyon, Luderitz) or on the far east, towards Zambia and Botswana (Caprivi Victoria Falls maybe a quick tour in Chobe)? I think the second option could be better for our tastes, but I am afraid it is too time-consuming (once you are there, you are expected to do the same way back...) and/or too expensive. What is your advice? Thanks

Type in question in advanced search cause I have replied to this several times and you can get specific info, works really well. | 2
Just got back from an amazing trip to Namibia. Didn't get to the far South so can't really comment on that part. BUT did start at Livingstone and travelled through Chobe and the Caprivi strip and it was my favourite part of the holiday. Chobe is of course amazing - the density of animals is incomparable , especially elephants. Really enjoyed Bwabwata NP in the Caprivi as well and wish we'd stayed more than just the one night. We stayed at 2 of the community run camp sites - Nambwa and N//Goabaca and were really impressed - beautiful locations, spotless camps and quite cheap. If you can't get to the Okovango the Caprivi is fairly similar (but more accessible by road) and well worth a visit. | 3

I agree with you that second option is better. It will be more expensive but then it would be cheaper than another trip to Botswana later. Just got back from a camping tour trip of Namibia. It is a beautiful country. But I'd skip Fisher Canyon if I ever revisit Namibia. The canyon is great but no match to America's Grand Canyon if you have seen that one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/youngadventure/sets/72157625578378522/ | 5
