MUST-SEE CITIES????

Country forums / Africa / Morocco

Hi,
we are travelling to Morocco in the summer. We are wondering if anyone could give us some hints or tips on which cities are must-sees??? Or any sites that you highly recommend????

Thanks!

Hi @maryam230,

I visited Morocco in September 2015 and have posted my itinerary here. Out of the places I visited, I'd definitely recommend Fes, Chefchaouen and Essaouira. Fes for the real bargains (things aren't actually that cheap in Marrakech as there is such a high demand), old medina and atmosphere, Chefchaouen for the hiking, relaxed vibe and just to see how blue it really is!, and Essaouira for a beach break, hassle-free window shopping and excellent seafood.

Thanks,
Rachel

Not knowing what you like, how long you will be in the country, and how you will travel, it's not possible to help much. But in any case, your best advice is to get one or more guidebooks for Morocco and spend some time researching. Rough Guide and Lonely Planet are good.

However travel in Morocco is slow, so beware of constructing a bucket list of places to visit that is impossible to achieve without spending half your holiday in travel (this is a particular failing of North American visitors). Best to select one area of the country which has a selection of other places nearby.

Depends on you, your interests and how much time you have....there are no 'must sees' for me,or at least they are different for every person.

I'd also start with a guidebook..make a rough itinerary and then post it on here, and you should get some feedback.

Yes, you need to buy a guidebook and read it a little so you can decide self what for places it can be a must for you. Agree with lucapal, every one of us have own a must to see places, if to use this "a must". I not use it and not like it either, when I want to travel I look at the map and read about places and then I choose what I want to see. Without considering it as a must, rather to I wish.

A few more out-of-the way options I would recommend would be Taza (huge cave and nice town), Figuig (if you can get there), Sefrou and Moulay Idris (really nice little towns) and Merleft (best beaches).

One of my favorite places to stay is Auberge Le Festival in the Todra Gorge......stunning views and great people. You can sleep in a cave, climb the cliffs right behind the hotel with the trained staff, hike the gorges, take a 4x4 adventure, take a dip in the hot tub or just sit and appreciate the views with tea and cakes.
