Murchison falls national park, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and beach...

Country forums / Africa / Uganda

We have got 22 days and too many options...

We can fly into Nairobi or Dar el Salam for the same amount of money. We definitely want to visit Serengeti and the Ngorongoro crater (planning a four days safari). We would like to spend five-six days on a white beach (whether in Kenya or Zanzibar) and do nothing. For the remaining week –ten days we wonder if a trip to Uganda to the Murchison falls national park is worth a visit. Other possible suggestions?

IMO - If you fly to either N or Dar and are going to Serengetti and Ngoro then NO, a trip to Murchison isn't worth it. It is a beautiful park and it is lovely and relaxing/private/quiet with few other tourists but whilst it is lovely, you may find it a little bit of an anticlimax after the bigger parks of S.Kenya. Plus it would take you a hell of a journey to get there.

IF you decide to do it, Red Chilli offers a good package for 3 days [http://www.redchillihideaway.com/murchisontrip.htm]

Instead, if you want to go to Uganda I would recommend a couple of days in Jinja doing the rafting (I would go for Nile River Explorers [http://www.raftafrica.com/] ) which is great. Just search for similar posts on rafting here for some comments. Yes, the rapids are still some of the best in the world despite the construction of the dam. Plus Jinja isn't THAT far - still a good 12+ hours though from Nairobi (roughly?). If you have the money, you could go see the gorillas in Bwindi but that would also be quite a treck from Kenya.

Have an amazing time though whatever you do ;)
