Madagscar October

Country forums / Africa / Madagascar

Hey

I'm going to Madagascar three weeks in October this year. I don't have any plans yet. I'm thinking about stying two weeks with Global Vision International. Anybody here who have been doing the Madagscar Conservation Programme with GVI?How is it? Another option is to go by my self. I woluld like to see nature and lemurs. Where is the best place to go? Anybody who would like to join?
Thanks!

hi
I guess by the time you get this you may already be over there! I can't comment on the organisation, but I would certainly not be afraid to go it alone. You will need to know some french though and have a good guide book - I'd recommend the bradt guide for madagascar (sorry LP!). Its impossible to know where to begin in Madagascar as there are parks and wildlife in every direction. For a first time visit I would recommend travelling down RN7 from the capital Tana. Its a good tarmac road that runs to the southwestern corner of the country to the city of tulear. There are several interesting stops along the way including Ranomafana and Isalo national parks. Also Zombitse and some other sites as you near Tulear. Near Tulear there are a few parks, good birding and snorkelling/diving.

Have fun!
