Madagascar in low season

Hello there,

I consider travelling to Madagascar with a friend of mine in February. Low season itself is no matter, actually I prefer it due to less tourists travelling around. I read through the Lonely Planet guide quite a bit, and as it seems, visiting Madascar between January and March should be avoided (due to heavy rain - which makes getting around near impossible). Once there, I wouldnt want to miss out alot just because one is unable to get around.

Is there someone who can share experience on how travelling actually is in the rainy season?

I've been to Thailand for a month two years ago in the low season (=rainy season). If I wouldnt have known it in advance, I wouldnt have believed that it is in fact "rainy season". I know there is no comparison to a different climate, and it also depends on how lucky one is.

Februar would just be perfect because my travelmate would be in Southafrica and we could meet up in Madagascar. Plus, theres no University in February.

I need 19 hours from Tana to Ambanja (Nosy Be)now in try season. ....
Few roads are good, most of the roads are not asphalted. Madagascar is not like Thailand. Independ where you go will be okay in rain season.

I'm in Madagascar now, travel by my own.
First mostly all is in french, so you have to learn french, I use Google translate on S3 ;-)

At the moment there are not many people here course of the 2 tourists got killed by fire on beach of Nosy Be. Just 2 min from my hotel 1 year ago.

Would you please give more information about your Airtell mobile internet. Did you buy this in Tana? Do you have Island wide coverage or only in the different towns you are staying and if so which towns do you get coverage? Do get dropped internet service or how fast does the information you ask for displayed? Example text information is quick but a video is start and stop. Why did you choose airtell instead of Moov or Orange or Blueline which are other carriers of mobile internet? My personal experience was with Moov and it was like throwing money away ad would like to hear more about your choice and I think would be a benefit to other travelers. Thank you

Having live here since 2002 and thinking back over the last few years ,there really hasn't been any really major rain events. The Island rarely gets island wide rain. The Island is fairly large and where there could be a major storm on the Northeast, the South west can be dry and sunny. If you are flexible to what you want to do when you arrive, then travel at that time will be rewarding. Some of the Parks are closed but many remain open. Some roads become muddy and difficult to pass. And in worst case scenarios some bridges wash out but that does not stop life here. People take a bus to the bridge and either walk across or boat across the river and take the bus on the other side of the bridge.
I too like to travel in off seasons for some of the same reasons you mentioned. Madagascar never seems to be overflowing with tourists at any time of year with only 250,000 visitors per year.
