The most relevant factor in summit success rate is not the route, but the number of days, simply adding a day to any route would help you significantly. As for Machame versus Rongai, Machame's route is better for acclimatization because of the climb high/sleep low route profile. But at the same time, this movement also makes for a more strenuous hike, and overexertion can promote altitude sickness. So if you didn't have any issue with the climbing itself, Machame is recommended. But if you were strained on the climb, then Rongai is recommended. Or better yet, add another day and do 8-day Lemosho. The following link can be useful on your searching on which company to go with. | 2
I climbed mount Kilimanjaro by my self but i was guided with Mussa of Enosa Expeditions. I did a 7 day climb up Kilimanjaro along the Machame route. My guide, was extremely, knowledgeable about the mountain its terrains and its history and he was patient, understanding and encouraging of even the slowest, inexperienced climber like me(LOL !). I would say Machame route and Lemosho routes are simple routes. This is according to my understanding and the advice i was given by Emma (Co-owner of Enosa),thus why i decided to choose Machame. Actually on the issue of Tour operator i would like to advice you to be careful, some companies are charging much money but are paying their workers very small amount of money. I spent a long time looking for a company that was local but i couldn't find a company that charged less than about $2000 and then of course you tip on top of that. But Enosa was perfect I definitely suggest you email them with your dates and see what they quote you, and if there are any groups you can join! They charged me $1400USD which is nothing compared to other companies. I liked that i wasn't paying extra for all the fancy stuff like a private toilet/shower tent and candle lit dinners, etc that other groups had.. so unnecessary! You're climbing a mountain, you want to rough it a bit! But those things were on offer if you wanted. They are a fairly new company which is just starting up but very professional. | 3
Our plan is to climb Kilimanjaro using Machame route. We want to take 6 days starting also on the second week of February. Date not fixed yet. We are now in Zanzibar-Tanzania and we will finish our research work on 8th February,2016. From that date we will have one month free, therefore we can start the climb any day with effect from that date, thus we can join you. | 4
