Kampala to Kigali by bus - which company?Country forums / Africa / Uganda
Hi | ||
I went from Kigali to Kampala with Onatracom. They was pretty good and I highly recommend them. | 1
I haven't been to Kigali, but we travelled through Uganda and Kenya and used Kampala Coach a few times, amongst others to go from Kampala to Nairobi, back again, and then on various trips around Uganda. I liked them! At one point the driver even stopped at our request at the equator sign so we could get off and take a quick photo LOL I would recommend them. | 2
Jaguar Buses also run daily from kampala to Kigali and viseversa | 3
I would recommend Kampala Coach over Jaguar, I've ridden both from Kigali-Kampala and back. Jaguar seats 5 across in a 2-3 configuration and has very uncomfortable seats. Kampala Coach seats 4 across in a 2-2 configuration and has very comfortable seats that are fully adjustable. That being said, Jaguar tends to drive faster then Kampala Coach if you are in a hurry but not worth it IMO. The trip from Kigali-Kampala is always faster then the return trip to do immigration in Rwanda. Remember plastic bags are not allowed in Rwanda and they will search your luggage and confiscate them at the border. Have fun backpacking!

I recently took Jaguar from Kampala to Kigali, and then returned on Kampala coach. I would highly recommend Kampala Coach. You can read a summary of my trip here: http://omutima.tumblr.com/post/27182328648/rwanda-part-1-transportation | 5
I would like to update this thread with my experience from early August 2012. I took Kampala Coach, based on what I had read and evaluated. The driver was acting funny when we boarded the bus at 10, and to my utter surprise we left at 10:30 as scheduled. At about 3 AM, when I was sort of asleep, I could feel that we were speeding. I woke up and shortly thereafter, we hit something, the bus driver screamed, everyone in the bus started screaming, as we were speeding down a road or a ditch or something. It was hard to tell considering we were in complete darkness. | 6
