Kampala - KisoroCountry forums / Africa / Uganda
Hey TT-ers, Does anyone have any experience of buses from Kampala to Kisoro? We've been told by someone who lives in Uganda it's a fairly hairy ride and would be much easier done by private hire taxi, but this is obviously much more expensive. I've been on plenty of developing world buses, I can't imagine the Ugandan ones are any worse than the average. On the other hand we've been told it takes 9-12 hours so it could be torture! Do the buses to Kisoro have any kind of timetable, or is it a case of turning up and waiting till they're full? Thanks!
Buses from Kampala to Kisoro are no different to any other in Uganda - they go very fast and are not particularly comfortable. If you have the time I would suggest getting the Post Bus to Kabale, spending some time at Lake Bunyoni, and goping on to Kisoro from there. There is no timetable for regular buses - you just wait until they're full - but the Post Bus leaves Kampala at 8.00am every day and is safe and reliable. No pre-booking of tickets so turn up at the main PO on Kampala Road at 7.30 to buy them. | 1
Hi, | 2 | |
That will work. Should be around 7-8 hours to Kabale (maybe less as I've done it in 6 when driving myself but the post bus stops at several places along the way) and 2 more to Kisoro. If it's getting late when you get to Kisoro you may have to shell out for a private hire to leave immediately rather than wait for a (minibus) taxi to fill up. The mountains down near Kisoro are spectacular. Enjoy. | 3
