joburg-potchefstroom

Its takes about 90 minutes to drive to Potch from Johannesburg. Yes, you do really need an international drivers licence - there was quite a long thread recently on IDLs it may be worth reading it.

f... I´m leaving on monday and I´m not in my city so I guess there´s no chance to get one. Are there any public busses which go to potchefstroom? Or is there any other chance to get there? Hopefully a cheap one..
another question for the south-afrika-specialist rudiK :) what do u think of the kulula airlines? I figuered that it cost me only about 27 Euro to fly from joburg to capetown.. how small are the planes?

its me again.. aren´t there any rent a cars where u don´t need a international license?? Or will I have big problems if the police stops me? I mean I got only a german one. Shit, I just booked my flight few days ago, so I didn´t have too much time to think about all of this. thanx for help

As far as I know, Kulula is fine. Also 1time, Nationwide and Mango (the SAA no-frills branch). You will have to google for them and as far as I know you can only book Mango locally. It is only a two-hour flight, so one cannot go too far wrong.
You don't need to be in your own city to get an IDL, I would expect you to be able to get it at any ADAC office??.
You have already said that Greyhound goes to or via Potch. There may be others too, but I do not know off-hand.

Sorry I missed the point about renting without an IDL. I guess that may be possible. I would be more worried about a cop wanting to see the licence.
