How hot does it really get in Egypt in May?

I am planning a trip around Jordan & Egypt in May this year, but get a wide range of weather and climate reports on the internet. They say it gets hot......scorching hot......and to see the sights in the early morning and late in the day. The temps stated are around 32 in Cairo, 34 in Luxor & Aswan, and hotter in the deserts. Do these temps sound right?
I am from Australia, and our summer temps regularly go over 30, so the thought of 30-35 degrees days doesn't worry me, but am I missing something? Are they just trying to be nice to the tourists by saying that temps are in the 30's but they really are higher? I understand that 30 may be scorching for some people........

I was in both countries in April a couple of years back, i never thought it was oppressively hot. Obviously trekking around the pyramids and petra are going to be hot, but i had trousers and a long sleeved shirt on the whole month or two i was there and never felt the need to peel them off. It was much, much less uncomfortable than india for example as there is no humidity. Jordan got quite cool at night, especially in the deserts which were very cold.

Unfortunately the first response you got is useless, weather in April is not exactly the same with the May weather conditions. The main difference is that the May average temperatures are 5 more than in April (celcius). Generally speaking the weather in may is above 30 celcius and so you need airconditioning, just passable weather but not guarantee against some scorching heat days, if you are unlucky. In the coast areas is less problem, in the maditerranean coast (which is NOT a highlight of egypt) the weather is very suitable to go and swim.
My advice: still you can go in egypt in may, just be prepared for some heat (not extreme, if you are in a normal year of climate). Happy travels

I've lived in Egypt for over 10 years. May is usually comfortably hot in Cairo, with a refreshing breeze at night. Certainly not as oppressively hot as people expect. It's really only July-early Sept. that I have to use my A/C, and even then you'll see Gulf Arabs flocking to Cairo to "cool down". But the weather is a lot hotter in Upper Egypt, often by another 5-10C, and you may have to restrict your sightseeing to the morning and evening hours. Often ideal weather in May to visit Alexandria and Sinai.

Despite my response being useless Anas, you said almost the same thing as me and clearly didnt read that i mentioned i was there for over 2 months from April. I never felt the need for AC in either country

In May last year I spend time in Luxor with friends from different parts of the world. The Australians insisted on having the a/c turned off all the time, and the English people spend a lot of time in the pool. Remember that it is usually dry heat which can feel cooler than at a higher temperature elsewhere. It sounds like you'll be fine, ricky65.
