How can I get from Sharm el-Sheik to the Eilat Airport?

Country forums / Africa / Egypt

I asked a question about traveling from Egypt to Israel before, but my travel plans have changed and I thus have a bit of a different situation now. Thanks for your help!

So, on October 7th, I need to get back home to Jerusalem. However, one-way flights from Cairo to Tel Aviv are about $600 with 6 hour waitovers, so I said heck no to that option.

So, so far, I have booked a cheap(ish) flight from Cairo to Sharm el-Sheik. I will be getting there very early in the morning of October 7th. Then, later that day - in the late evening around 8 PM or so - I have a flight from Eilat, Israel to Tel Aviv, Israel. Then, I will see about taking public transit from Tel Aviv back to Jerusalem, if it is still running at that late hour.

However, that is not what my question concerns. My questions is: how can I get from Sharm el-Sheik to Egypt's border crossing with Israel? It is my understanding that there are buses from Sharm el-Sheik to Taba, but how much would such cost, can I book it in advance, and where would I get on this bus at? Also, how would I go from the drop-off point in Taba to the Eilat airport? Would it have to be through taxi? If so, how much would that cost?

Again, thanks so much for your help! I never thought going from Egypt to Israel would be so complex (I previously assumed I would be able to book a cheap one way flight from Cairo to Tel Aviv for about $150, given how much I have paid for other Middle Eastern flights).

No reason to book ahead.. yes there are busses and it's no more than 10$..your problem is timing..

There is a bus leaving sharm at 8am to taba. There is atleast a 0900 to nuweiba if you can't make it and then taxi from there. Bargain HARD.

Look on ask Aladdin for fares etc..

If you are close tomake the timing, the bus passes about 5 km away from thw airport and there is a security stop.. perhaps you could board there.. take a taxi for no more than 20 le to this point.. (it is literally out the door and straight across open desert for 2k.. it is not walkable))

To get to the actual bus station will take 1/2 hour and they want 80 LE

There's a bus that goes from Sharm to Taba and stops in Dahab and Nuweiba. I paid 40LE from Dahab to Taba. Ride is about 2 hours or so. The bus stop is about 600m from the border crossing so just walk.

Once you've crossed over into Israel, just get a taxi that will drop you at the airport for 40 shekels or so ($10).

travellinandi - My flight lands in Sharm el-Sheik around 6 AM. So, I should be able to make the 8 AM bus, right? When you say a half an hour to the bus stop, do you mean from the airport? So, 80 LE for from the Sharm el-Sheik airport to the bus stop via cab? Also, what is the name of this bus station/ stop? Also, does the bus from Sharm el-Sheik to Taba ever fill up? Thanks!

jonnyafrica - do you know how long the bus from Sharm el-Sheik to Taba is? Also, does the bus just drop you off at a random point in Taba, or is the location the Taba border with Eilat, Israel? Thanks!

I ask about the duration of the bus from Sharm el-Sheik to Taba because I have a flight around 8:30 PM (Israeli time) or so that day to fly to Tel Aviv and I want to hopefully be able to catch one of the buses from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem before they close for the night.

I just noticed the bus drops you off near, yet not at, the border. Thanks!

Yes.. you should easily make it assuming on time.. Yes. Taxi ride to bus terminal that is close to 'hi el nur 'and will not be more than 1/2 an hour.. if you tell the taxi driver sharm bus station.. they will undetstand.
Technically the bus terminal is closer to Roy -Sat...
Taxi will pass thru naama bay then about 3 km later it will take a right at the Mobil station and head 2 km towards the mountains and Roy 'sat. Terminal is on the left..

Timing wise for taba is no problem... you will be there by 3-4pm.. Johnny Africa paid an excellent price.. was that a long time ago??

Bus is never full but does leave on time plusn/minus 10 minutes!

Used to be there was a sticker in the window saying how much cab fare is.. 50 is also possible if you know how to bargain.. Or try with a 5$ bill but not more than 10!!

Thanks! Do you know if most of the signs will be in English? I'm studying Arabic, but for now it's very limited.

Wait, so are you saying some taxi drivers in Egypt will accept USD?
