Getting a South African visa while in Namibia

Country forums / Africa / Namibia

I am meeting a friend soon in Namibia and we might decide to visit South Africa, too. Our question is: would it be possible for him to submit his visa application to the South Africa consulate in Windhoek while we are in Namibia? Or, does he need a Namibia residence status of some sort to do that? He will need a South Africa visa to visit there, but does not have time to get one before he leaves on his trip. I've tried to find this information on the Internet, but it seems to be elusive.

What nationalities are you?

It's virtually impossible to get into Namibia without going through Jo'burg, so am surprised how your friend got there?

I am an American with Permanent Residence status in South Africa. I can easily visit Namibia. My friend is not yet in Namibia, but he has learned that he needs to send his visa application to Windhoek to get a visitor visa. He is from Pakistan. Is it not likely he would be able to get a visitor visa for Namibia? Thanks for any information.

You could try looking somewhere like that site. I have no idea what the likelihood of obtaining a visa would be. I would have thought the South African consulate in Pakistan would be a good starting point for your friend.

You need transit visa in the first place if traveling on Pakistani passport through Joberg to Namibia, (even if it is only airport transit).

Other route you can take if want to avoid SA transit visa, is come through Frankfurt direct to Namibia (through Air Namibia)

Secondly for applying visa of SA while in Namibia you need Residence permit, and still it take more than one month to get reply from high commission, on few occassions it can take even longer.
