Drakensberg (and Lesotho) by public transport

Hello,

We'll be heading from Durban to Pretoria via the Drakensberg by public transport in October. From research, I see that there are a variety of areas to choose from (North/Central/South) as well as Lesotho. We're interested in hiking; day trips would be fine and we'd consider overnight as well. We'd be camping. I see negative reviews for Amphitheatre backpackers and positive reviews for Inkosana lodge. There are also campsites within/at the entrance to the park, it seems.

Can anyone comment on a good way to get the most out of this region, which hikes to do, where to base yourself, things to be aware of, etc.? Also, is there a good itinerary option for combining with Lesotho?
