Desert Tours from Cairo

Country forums / Africa / Egypt

Hello :-)

Can anyone recommend well-priced desert tours departing from Cairo in the next few days? I would like to spend up to a week with meet up with fellow travelers.

All tips and contributions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Before going to Cairo we also looked into tour prices. It is cheaper to get a tour of your own choice once you get there. Cairo has many tour operators, just loads of them. Decide what you want to do then just book it in Egypt. We did a day trip to the pyramids and a three day (two nights) trip along the Nile. They were both much cheaper than the uk travel brochure and internet prices too. The trips were great, well organised, good food, bed, everything!

Thanks mickyfinn,

How long did you stay and what was the price range that you were quoted?
Which sites did you visit?

I guess I'll look around when I go to Cairo.

Really appreciate your advice. :)

We were in Cairo for a five days, then went onward down to Luxor for another week. We did the pyramids for just a day, then took a trip down the Nile stopping in Minya (El Minya) going out and Beni Sef coming back. Both locations had lots of history about them and it wasn't till then that I really appreciated how much more there is about Egypt apart from the pyramids. I cannot remember the exact prices, but do recall that we were told 'Book when you arrive, it'll be cheaper' from friends who had already done Egypt and they were spot on!

Look up Helal Travel. I tried to link, but the site is not working at this moment - possible in Egypt. They have a really pleasant, rustic ecolodge on the edge of the Black Desert and do camping trips into the White Desert. It was economical and very pleasant. They can provide transport to and from Cairo with everything but tips included for the trip. We went for four days, four people for under $800usd. Two nights at hotel, one camping.
