Day trip to Cairo from Hurghada

Country forums / Africa / Egypt

Hi

I'm going to Hurghada this Friday with my family. I wish to visit Cairo for the day but not sure of any day trips etc. Does anybody know how far it is by coach? or would it be best for me to fly and try to arrange a tour guide in cairo ?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Ignore badwytours, he shouldn't advertise on here and his service is poor anyway.
Hurghada to Cairo would be harder on a bus for a day as it would take up to 5 hours or so each way and in a convoy. Flying is better but it hardly seems worth it to visit just for one day. Better come back another time.

Hi we travelled to Cairo from Sharm this summer - you can do the same from Hurghada. We booked our flights in the UK before we left with Egyptair - £30 each return - you need to make sure you click on the Egyptian flag for the cheaper prices. We then arranged our own private guide and driver. We went to the museum, sphinx and pyramids and found a day was plenty to see all that we wanted.

Travelling by bus is extremely exhausting, so flying would be a better solution. However I also tend to think spending only one day in Cairo is a waste, except if you are keen on seeing only the attractions for tourist groups like Pooch1. For a real visit of Cairo you need at least several days.
And let it be said : going to Cairo without visiting Islamic Cairo is a crime. The Cairo that organized tours show to Western tourists is a vast joke. It's as if you were travelling to Paris and seeing only the Eiffel Tower, or travelling to New York and seeing only the statue of the liberty...

It is not enough to see Cairo in a day but if you really want to do the pyramids and the museum just wait till you are in Hurghada and join a one day tour. It will leave very early so that you can still quite a few hours at Cairo. It is much cheaper if you can survive 2 exhaustive bus trips in a day. But you will still need a local taxi driver at the very least to drive you around so you don't waste time arranging for local transportation from one place to another.
