Day Trip from MoshiCountry forums / Africa / Tanzania
I will be hiking Kilimanjaro in early June. I have 1 free day to spend in Moshi prior to my climb. I was hoping to find a good day trip to one of the parks nearby. I need to be back at my hotel for 6 pm. Is this an option for me or is that simply not enough time? Thanks,

I would recommend two places. First is Olpopongi, eventhough it is a touristic Maasai Village, it is differnet to those of Ngorongoro. It is something like a community support from a German company, to show Maasai lifestyle and to help the people to get income (not begging for) to pay school fees and helath service. You can walk with the Maasai warriors in the planes to see wild life. Second is Chemka hot springs, where you can relax from trek in the clear and cozy water, enjoy a BBQ in the shade. Never go on week ends. Arusha Nationalpark with the Momella Lakes is another option, only when you make the walk with the ranger to the waterfall ist is similar, to Kili. Giraffes, Zebras, Buffalos are there in big numbers, and eventhough there are elephants and leopards in the park you will not see them or you are very, very lucky. Johannes | 2
To be fair, I didn Totally agree with bongolander about Chemka hot springs. Good place to relax after Kili challenge. | 3
If you want a safari, you can also make it to Tarangire or Manyara National Park. Let them know that you need to be back by 6pm though. Since you must start back early, they should make arrangements for a very early start to get a good morning game drive in. The company that you booked the climb with is not on their toes if they did not think of offering options for your free day. I hope you enjoy your trip. | 4
