credit card details for accomodation in Marrakesh

Country forums / Africa / Morocco

I am looking at booking accomodation in a riad in Morrocco for next week. Many places seem to be available, but all most ask for my credit card number for reservation. Just wanted to double-check whether this is common place to do? I imagine it is?
Would appreciate any comments on this. Thanks a lot

Some people do provide it and have no problems, but I don't. It depends on how comfortable you are doing so. I worry about possible misuse/identity theft.

I don“t feel to comfortable either providing those details, but it seems that limits choice quite a bit. Thinking of booking "Jardins les Mouassins" and they want my credit card details too...including the three digit security code at the back...what are alternative ways of reserving? Do some riads accept if you confirm by email or so but without giving out credit card details?

Higher end places, such as Riads (which have fewer rooms than hotels so therefore are harder hit by no shows) will usually require the credit card details plus that CVC code. Or they will ask for a bank transfer. But in my experience it's pretty standard, unless you book at the very last minute, which I don't like to do as where I stay is as much part of the experience as visiting the city.

Insist that you ring them with your card number, expiry date and cv code. You can send the billing address and name on card by e-mail. It's always a problem problem paying by card when you are not present.
Alternatively send the details by fax, confirming just your name and address details.
As with any payment where you are not present, use a credit card rather than a debit one.

High-end riads do ask for your credit card, no reason to worry.
