Cheap roadtrip in South Africa: all you need to know!

Country forums / Africa / South Africa

Hello travellers.
We did a roadtrip in South Africa recently, during 2 months, touring around the country. Great! Easy!
It´s very cheap to rent a small 2WD car in South Africa (we paid 12€/day) and good enough to drive almost everywhere, also self-drive in Kurger, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, Addo... and other game parks! Fantastic! And game parks are really cheap in South Africa (under 20 € not like in Kenya and Tanzania costing more than 50!).
Carrying a tent in South Africa will help you to save money, as it´s the cheapeast accommodation you will find... Great camspites, safe!
A lot of good supermarkets, good prices. Also take away food.
You can also try couchsurfing there, 5 stars hospitality in South Africa.
Recommended country! Diverse. Affordable! We spend in average 35 €/day/2 people!
All the details and useful information is on our blog... Prices, routes, accommodation...
Viajes con Mochila
Enjoy!

Hi,

Wow... really positive feedback about SA. What about safety? You travelled alone or with somebody else? I am planning to go to SA really soon in November. I am really excited to go but recently I have been reading about hijacking /carjacking and so on .... and honestly I got scared. What is your experience in SA? Any advices? Thanks

Hi.
South Africa is great... for travellers is a great country... different if you live in one of the big cities of SA with its problems.
Don´t worry!
We were 2 women.
Rental car.
8.000 km, no problem, in 2 months.
Great campings and lodges, super safe.
Good supermarkets.
Diverse... coasts, mountains, Cape Town and surrounds, traditional villages in Transkei and KZN and great wildlife.
All the details and tips on our blog.
Enjoy!
