Central Namibia - Tirool Farm Camping Site.

Country forums / Africa / Namibia

50 kms north of Aus on the C13 is one of the best camping sites we stayed at in 2 months of self-driving through Southern Africa. On a farm owned by a very pleasant young couple there are 3 separate campsites each equipped with not only braai, large tub with running water, shelter and table and bench but a proper clothesline! The ablution block is outstanding with some beautiful little touches - as good as some I have experienced in far more expensive lodges. And all this in stunning landscape. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking at a place to camp between Fish river/Luderitz and Sesriem.

Sabbie2 ,

Where else did you go? Any reccommendations - trip report?

Hi Kirsten,

Are you interested in just Namibia or other Southern African countries also?

Not sure how you are travelling. If by road up from S.Africa, Fish River, Quiver Tree Forest near Keetmanshoop and Luderitz are worth a visit. Sossousvlei and the Dunes and also in this area are Wolvedans and Tok Tokkie Trails (both a bit at the expensive end - didn't do them on this trip but have in the past). A day trip to Sandwich Harbour out of Swakopmund is great. Brune Nebe (Turnstone Tours) is an amazing guide and comes highly recommended. A good drive up the Skeleton Coast and inland towards Twyfelfontein and Damaraland. Wonderful landscapes. A good community campsite on the banks of the dry Abu Huab. Etosha ia always good for a visit - prefer Halali to the other two main campsites. Further north towards Rundu and the Caprivi - good campsite and lodge N'kwasi. Other end of the Caprivi outside of Katimo Mulilo a very good campsite is Namwi Island on the banks of the Zambezi (or half of it as Namwi Island is in the middle of the river). This was roughly the trip we did this time.

Hi Sabbie2,

Thanks for your suggestions - sounds like a great trip, but my plan is a self-drive partially camping / lodge to other areas and I have already booked 4WHD and accomendations following locations:
Spitzkoppe
Mowani Mountain Camp
Palmwag Lodge Camp
Opuwo Country Lodge
Epupa Falls - Omarunga Lodge
Kunene River Lodge
Etosha - Dolomite - Okaukuejo, Halali

I am very open to any suggestions for things in these areas I should see / do

Kirsten
