Car insurance

Country forums / Africa / Morocco

Hi all,
We want to hire a car (in Marrakesh). When asking about insurance, we were told that the usual insurance covers third party and maybe theft. It does not cover damage to the rented car itself.
Has anybody experience or advice as to car insurance?
Thanks

I had a rental car several time through Amsterdam Cars. Fortunately I never had an accident and was careless enough never to inquire about insurance. On their website
conditions

is written " En cas d’accident, si vous n’êtes pas fautif vous ne payerez rien !"

This means if you have an accident and didn't cause it you pay nothing.

Just be sure when you sign the rental papers you understand what insurance you are obtaining and what it costs. Avis once tried to charge me for coverage I had rejected. Also check and see if your credit card will provide some type of coverage in a foreign country.

I would ask for insurance that covers damage to the car itself. We ended up not needing it, but having it made us feel much more at ease when driving in the cities and dodging the cabbies and everyone on bikes.
