Car hire- at airport or hostel?

Country forums / Africa / Namibia

Hello,

My 3 friends and I arrive in Windhoek March 2. We were thinking of staying at Chameleon or Cardboard just because we heard they are both good places to stay and have decent travel advice (any input on which is better/will provide better self drive ideas cheaper car hire etc)?

My question is...do we hire a taxi to where we are staying, and then get the car from the hostel? Or should we hire the car at the airport? If at the airport, do we take care of it when we arrive or should we book something in advance?

Any tips are much appreciated.

Sarah

I always find it most convenient to pre-book rental cars and collect/drop-off at the airport. Check if your accommodation options have secure parking.

Many Windhoek car hire companies do not offer airport collection/drop off so you will need to determine who you are using for hire car first. We usually collect the car in Windhoek and pay for a shuttle to the airport - its no hassle really and the car hire company will usually organise it for you.

Yeah a good idea... If you hire a car, pick it up as threedogs say in Windhoek and leave it there when your finish, I think with current prices you wont have to pay that much, and again people are generally pretty helpful so you will be ok!

Well, we're going to Namibia in June this year. I just booked a car through a Dutch car rental brooker and found it to be a quite good deal. A Volkswagen Chico or similar, all insurances included (without excess & tyre/window/undercarriage insurance included) from the airport, 27 days rental for just over 600euro.
pm me if you want details.
cheers
